NIGCOMSAT positioned to provide reliable internet, stimulate innovations in tech industry, says Egerton- Idehen

The Maanaging Director and Chief Cxecutive Officer of Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT), Nkechi Egerton- Idehen, has said that the agency has been positioned to provide the nation with reliable internet services that will stimulate innovation and advancements in the tech industry.Egerton- Idehen stated this at a news conference at the North-West Regional Office of NIGCOMSAT, in Kaduna.

She said the agency is determined to be the preferred choice and a leading provider of communications solutions provider in not only Nigeria, but the African continent.

According to her, a restructuring process has been initiated “as we reassess our priorities to ensure that they flourish in the evolving Comtech industry, to compete effectively and contribute to the internally generated revenue of the country”.

She added that the story in NIGCOMSAT today is a story of transformation from an unwell service provider to an energetic, well focus industry player with a strong determination to change the past history.

Egerton- Idehen said the two day visit to Kaduna afforded her the opportunity to meet and discuss with stakeholders and potential clients in the North West zone, comprising of Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, Jigawa, Zamfara, Kebbi and Katsina.

“We are determined to make NIGCOMSAT a beacon of national pride, with an energised workforce and satisfied clients.

“Part of our mandate as a communications satellite operator is to ensure bridge the digital divide for the Nigerian people by providing broadband connectivity to the unserved and underserved populace.

“We are more than ever committed to provide universal, ubiquitous, and cost-effective access to communications infrastructure throughout the country, to strive for a Nigeria where the utilisation of ICT impacts all spheres from agriculture, education, health, enterprise, etc.

“Technology is the engine of every economy, and NIGCOMSAT is now better positioned now than ever, to provide the nation with reliable internet services that will stimulate innovation and other advancements in the tech industry”, she said.

Egerton- Idehen said the agency will be willing to partner with the Kaduna State Government to provide broadband access and other solutions that can enhance the operations of small and medium enterprises, the educational and the healthcare sectors in the state.

She called on space enthusiasts and space tech companies to key into the NIGCOMSAT Accelerator programme before the application closes on 2nd February, 2024.

Reacting to a question on why security agencies are not using NIGSATCOM to tackle insecurity in the country, Egerton- Idehen, said since she assumed office, the agency has been making efforts to bring security agencies on the table.

“We don’t see why they had to go to foreign satellite partners to address this concern when NIGCOMSAT covers every single breadth of Nigeria and we have the available capacity and expertise to give them the solution they need.

“We want to work with the security agencies, we’ve already started working with some of them, but we think there is more opportunity to do more.

“We have the capacity, we have the capability to do it…” she said.
